Our name . . .
Wai Koko is named after our favorite local surf break in picturesque Hanalei Bay along Kauai’s North Shore, just minutes away from our offices.
Wai koko also means “blood water” in Hawaiian and so we decided we had the perfect name on multiple levels. Here, let us explain . . .
Not only has coconut water been used for hundreds of years to rehydrate the body, but it has also been used in emergency medical situations when adequate medical supplies were not available. Coconut water is naturally sterile straight from the coconut, and due to its isotonic properties, superior balance of trace minerals and similar composition to human plasma, it was used by combat medics in WWII as an emergency alternative to I-V saline for wounded soldiers when casualties were high. Its use for I-V saline has also been recorded in remote islands where necessary medical supplies were not immediately available for ill hospital patients. Now that’s real hydration!
